NHS Lothian Quit Your Way Pregnancy Service
Quit Your Way provides specialist support to help pregnant patients quit smoking. You can self-refer by calling your local office or ask your midwife to refer you—a practitioner will then contact you to arrange support.
There are flexible support options-
• Attend a local clinic or arrange a one-to-one appointment in a suitable location.
• Family members who want to quit are welcome to join.
• Telephone support is available if you can’t attend in person.
A practitioner will help by giving you behavioural support throughout your quit attempt, they will also discuss Nicotine Replacement Therapy and if this is suitable for you.
Why Quit?
Stopping smoking keeps your baby safe and reduces the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and sudden infant death.

There is a pregnancy incentive scheme, where you can be given cash incentives to help support you to stop smoking. The incentive scheme involves you meeting a practitioner in-person at agreed time points, stopping smoking and staying stopped throughout your pregnancy and after your baby is born. You will receive cash at set time points as long as you remain smoke-free. You can discuss this further with your midwife or call your local Quit Your Way office.
